A Bigger Choral World
ChoralVia was created around a simple belief: extraordinary international music-making should be possible for more singers.
Many wonderful choirs are too small to mount an international tour on their own. Other singers belong to ensembles that simply do not travel. ChoralVia brings those singers and organizations together once each year, creating a new international ensemble for one shared musical journey.
Different choirs. Different communities. One extraordinary experience.
Why ChoralVia Exists
Some of the most rewarding choral communities are not the largest ones.
A church choir may have eight singers eager to travel. A community chorus may have twenty. A school program may want to offer an international experience but not have enough participants to support an entire tour. And many individual singers simply belong to organizations that do not travel at all.
Those singers should still have the opportunity to make music internationally.
ChoralVia creates that opportunity by bringing people from different choirs, programs, and communities together for one international choral journey each year.
No participating organization has to fill the tour alone. No individual singer has to wait for their own choir to travel.
We create the opportunity. You become part of the ensemble.
For one journey, singers who may begin as strangers come together through shared repertoire, preparation, performance, and travel—and become one chorus.
One Journey Each Year
ChoralVia is intentionally focused.
We do not operate multiple tours each season, and we do not create custom travel programs for other organizations. Instead, we develop one international choral journey each year and invite singers, small groups, and choirs to become part of it.
That allows each journey to have a clear artistic identity, carefully chosen repertoire, meaningful destinations, and the time needed to build a strong ensemble before we travel.
Each year brings a new place, a new program, and a new community of singers.
One journey. One ensemble. One extraordinary year of music-making.
Artistic Leadership
Don Scott Carpenter
Founder & Artistic Director
ChoralVia was founded by conductor and composer Don Scott Carpenter, whose work with community, church, and professional ensembles has shown him how many excellent singers want the opportunity to perform internationally—but may never belong to an organization large enough to create that experience on its own.
As Artistic Director, Don Scott develops the musical concept for each annual journey, selects the repertoire, prepares the participating singers, and conducts the combined ChoralVia ensemble in performance.
His role is not simply to lead a tour, but to build a chorus: bringing singers from different backgrounds and organizations together around a shared musical purpose.
Great journeys begin with great music.
Every ChoralVia experience is shaped first by the repertoire, the people who will sing it, and the places where that music can have particular meaning.
Travel Planning with Music Celebrations International
Creating a meaningful international choral experience requires both artistic leadership and experienced travel planning.
ChoralVia engages Music Celebrations International (MCI) to coordinate the professional travel arrangements for each annual journey. MCI works with performing ensembles throughout the world and provides the infrastructure needed to support international group travel.
ChoralVia develops and leads the musical experience—including the artistic concept, repertoire, singer preparation, rehearsals, and performances. MCI coordinates the travel components, including transportation, accommodations, local guides, sightseeing, registration, payments, and tour management.
This alliance allows each organization to focus on what it does best.
ChoralVia creates the music. MCI helps make the journey possible.
ChoralVia is not a travel agency and does not design tours for other organizations. We create one international choral journey each year and work with MCI to bring that experience to life.
The ChoralVia Philosophy
We believe international choral travel should be about more than simply performing in another country.
Each ChoralVia journey is designed around the idea that music, place, and community can deepen one another. The repertoire should matter. The destinations should add meaning to the music. And the singers should feel that they are part of something larger than any one choir or organization.
We value:
Musical excellence — thoughtful repertoire, serious preparation, and performances that reflect the work of the ensemble.
Access — creating opportunities for singers and smaller organizations that may not otherwise be able to participate in international choral travel.
Community — bringing people from different choirs, schools, churches, and communities together through a shared musical purpose.
Discovery — experiencing the history, culture, people, and musical traditions of the places we visit.
Connection — building relationships through music that extend beyond the rehearsal room and concert hall.
We travel to make music. We make music to connect.
That is the heart of ChoralVia.
There’s a Place for You in the Next Chorus
ChoralVia is built for singers who want to make music beyond the boundaries of their own ensemble—and for conductors who want to give their singers opportunities they may not be able to create alone.
Come with your choir. Bring a few singers. Or come on your own.
Each year, we meet in a new part of the world, build a new ensemble, and create something together that none of us could create individually.
