Frequently Asked Questions

Who can sing with ChoralVia?

ChoralVia welcomes experienced choral singers from a variety of backgrounds. You may participate with your choir, bring a smaller group, or join independently.

Specific musical requirements may vary depending on the repertoire for each annual journey.

Do I need to belong to a participating choir?

No.

One of the primary reasons ChoralVia exists is to create international performance opportunities for singers whose own organizations may not travel.

Individual singers are welcome to participate.

Can I bring only part of my choir?

Absolutely.

A choir might bring six singers, a complete section, twenty singers, or its entire ensemble. There is no expectation that a participating organization must fill the tour on its own.

Can my entire choir participate?

Yes.

Community choruses, church choirs, school programs, and other established ensembles are encouraged to participate when the journey is appropriate for their singers.

Your choir retains its own identity while becoming part of the larger ChoralVia ensemble for the annual journey.

What if I am a conductor interested in bringing singers?

We would love to hear from you.

ChoralVia is specifically designed to help conductors offer international opportunities without having to create and fill an entire tour independently.

Participating conductors are encouraged to travel with their singers and become part of the ChoralVia community.

ChoralVia supports existing choirs; it does not compete with them.

Will I need to audition?

Participation requirements are determined for each journey based on the repertoire and musical demands of the program.

Some journeys may not require a formal audition, while others may require information about your musical experience, a recommendation, or an audition recording.

Any requirements will be clearly explained before registration.

Is ChoralVia a travel agency?

ChoralVia is committed to meaningful repertoire and strong musical preparation.

Singers should be comfortable learning choral music independently and committed to preparing their scores before traveling. The difficulty of the repertoire will vary from year to year.

How will singers prepare when everyone lives in different places?

Preparation begins well before departure.

Participants receive repertoire information, preparation expectations, schedules, and practice resources when available. Singers participating through existing choirs may also rehearse portions of the program with their local ensembles.

The complete ChoralVia ensemble comes together during the journey for combined rehearsals before performing.

Who chooses the music?

Founder and Artistic Director Don Scott Carpenter develops the artistic concept and repertoire for each annual ChoralVia journey.

Programs are selected with consideration for the singers, destinations, performance opportunities, and the larger artistic idea of the journey.

How difficult will the music be?

No.

ChoralVia is a choral organization that creates one international choral journey each year. We do not design custom tours or plan travel for other organizations.

ChoralVia develops and leads the musical experience.

Who handles the travel arrangements?

Professional travel arrangements are coordinated in partnership with Music Celebrations International (MCI).

MCI manages areas such as transportation, accommodations, local arrangements, sightseeing, registration, payments, and tour management.

ChoralVia concentrates on the artistic experience, singers, repertoire, rehearsals, and performances.

Do I have to sing to travel with ChoralVia?

No.

Spouses, partners, family members, friends, patrons, and other non-singing companions are welcome on ChoralVia journeys.

They share the destinations, accommodations, sightseeing, meals, and much of the overall experience with the singers.
